Urbanics was retained by the District of Sooke to undertake a Housing Needs Report to fulfill legislative requirements by the Province of British Columbia that took effect April 2019. Our firm performed an extensive demographic analysis to identify trends in population growth and housing development since 2001. The report included a review of the local housing market characteristics, land utilization patterns, and current gaps in the housing market. In addition to fulfilling the provincial requirements, Urbanics also conducted stakeholder engagement sessions and a housing needs survey. Urbanics offered recommendations to the District of Sooke in a final report, which included strategies to utilize federal and provincial funding opportunities, to develop more diverse and affordable housing options, and prepare for the continuing growth of seniors from the baby boom generation.
